Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fifth edition of the global semiconductor summit “SEMICON India 2026” on September 17th at the Yashobhoomi Convention Center in Dwarka, New Delhi. This three-day event, held from September 17th to 19th in the capital, New Delhi, focuses on industry participation, policy direction, and international partnerships. This mega-event brings together leading tech leaders, scientists, and investors from around the world to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The theme of this year’s summit is “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.” According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the conference is being jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), MeitY, and the global industry body SEMI under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem.” Addressing the inaugural session, Prime Minister Modi said, “India’s chip story is no longer confined to files, but has reached the ground in factories. India will soon become an integral and reliable part of the global semiconductor supply chain.” Highlighting the progress made in the country’s electronics and chip manufacturing sector, the Prime Minister said that India is now fully prepared for the next phase of the semiconductor sector, ‘Semicon 2.0.’ The Indian government aims to not only meet the country’s domestic chip needs but also export chips globally for the mobile, automobile, and AI sectors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that amid these achievements, the Semicon India event has become even more important. The first edition was held in 2022, and since then, we have been meeting every year, but the topics of our discussions have changed each year. In the first edition, we discussed policy. The discussions progressed in subsequent editions. We began discussions on projects, including signing files and laying foundation stones. Last year, we began discussions on pilot lines and test chips, and talked about the first samples coming out of Indian units. This year, we are talking about commercial production. Our chips are now reaching customers across the country and the world from Indian plants. Two more plants are also starting commercial production. I congratulate them as well. The event will also feature an official review of key manufacturing achievements. Under the ‘Semicon India Program,’ the central government has approved 12 semiconductor projects, of which commercial production has already begun at three units approved under ‘Semicon 1.0.’ Furthermore, the Union Cabinet has approved the next phase, called ‘Semicon 2.0,’ which is based on six key pillars. Electronic design automation tools have been delivered to over 400 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have received approval under the ‘Design Linked Incentive’ scheme. In this regard, the ministry said that SEMICON India 2026 will adopt a comprehensive value-chain approach, showcasing the journey from semiconductor materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, design, electronics and systems.

According to reports, PM Modi announced that the NEET paper leak case will be moved to a fast-track court, with the goal of securing swift punishment for those involved in the paper leak. He also ordered the relevant officials to begin work immediately. Prior to the launch of this facility, during the NDA’s “Mangal Milan” meeting on Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi stated that the future of the country’s youth is a priority for his government. He added that whatever decisions are required in this matter will be taken, and no student will be harmed. PM constituted FastTrack Court Posting on social media, Modi wrote, “Nothing is more important than the well-being and future of our youth. We have decided to establish a fast-track court to ensure swift and severe punishment for those involved in the paper leak. We have directed the relevant authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. This continues our ongoing efforts to protect the interests of students. Those who attempt to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.” He also warned that it is the government’s responsibility to secure the future of the country’s youth, and that he will not back down from this. He also warned that those who dared to do this will face the harshest punishment. The Prime Minister described this decision as a relief for students, as millions of students across the country take the NEET exam every year.
Modi, Kishida to Hold 16th India-Japan Summit in New Delhi, Focus on Trade, Defense, and Indo-Pacific Cooperation
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will visit India next month for a three-day trip. At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he will arrive in New Delhi for his first official visit to India, scheduled from July 1 to July 3. During this visit, he will participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit alongside Prime Minister Modi. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, both sides will use this occasion to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss areas of mutual interest as well as global issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Tokyo last year to attend the summit, during which he invited the Japanese Prime Minister to India for the summit. Following that invitation, the Japanese Prime Minister is now set to visit New Delhi for his first official trip to the country this coming July. The primary objective of this summit is to strengthen relations between the two nations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and defense partnerships. The 16th India-Japan Annual Summit will focus on the Special Strategic and Global Partnership, trade, defense cooperation, the Indo-Pacific region, and various global issues. During the visit, the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation will be reviewed, and the two Prime Ministers will hold discussions on matters of mutual interest.
