Uttarakhand passes Minority Education Bill, Madrasa Board to be abolished…
In 2025, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government introduced and passed the Uttarakhand Minority Educational Institutions Bill in the Assembly in August . Consequently, in October 2025, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh gave his final assent to the bill, making it law. The Uttarakhand Madrasa Board ceased to exist on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority came into effect on July 1. Consequently, the 452 madrasas operating in the state will now be required to obtain recognition from the Minority Education Authority. Currently, approximately 400 madrasas operate from grades 1st to 8th, and 55 madrasas operate from grades 9th to12th. This law has created the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority to manage madrasas, which will regulate schools in the Muslim community, as well as Sikh, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, and Parsi schools. A major challenge for the Madrasas in Uttarakhand is that they do not own any land and are operating on the property of the Madrasa Board. Consequently, these Madrasas may face significant difficulties in obtaining recognition from the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority, as only those Madrasas that comply with the Uttarakhand Education Department’s standards will be recognized. According to Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, this new arrangement has been established for children from all minority communities in the state. The Uttarakhand Education Department’s syllabus will be implemented in minority schools, and these children will receive religious education along with this syllabus. Furthermore, all educational institutions will have to meet the educational building and accreditation standards set by the Uttarakhand Education Department, after which they will be granted recognition. The Uttarakhand government’s aim with this initiative is to integrate all minority children into the mainstream of Uttarakhand’s education system. This will enable minorities to participate in the Uttarakhand education system while also receiving their religious education. Ram Mandir Donation Case: FIR, Eight Arrests, and Trust Resignations Deepen Scrutiny Over Alleged Financial Irregularities
A case involving the alleged misappropriation of donations made by devotees at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has captured the nation’s attention. Prior to these resignations, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government had submitted its preliminary investigation report. The report reportedly highlights several serious irregularities and administrative lapses concerning the collection, counting, record-keeping, and monitoring systems for donations and valuable offerings received at the temple. However, the investigation is ongoing, and final conclusions are yet to be reached. Based on the SIT’s preliminary report, the first FIR was registered at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station. The complaint was filed by Trust member Krishna Mohan, who had joined the Trust following the demise of former trustee Kameshwar Chaupal. The FIR alleges serious financial irregularities in the management of donations and offerings made by devotees. Within hours of the FIR being registered, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested all eight individuals named in the case. The arrested accused include Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Ramshankar Yadav (alias Tinnu). The police are interrogating the accused and examining documents and other evidence related to the case. The FIR includes charges of theft, criminal breach of trust, concealment of stolen property, criminal conspiracy, and various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act. Kolkata Warehouse Collapse Kills 8, Injures 20+; Dozens Feared Trapped Under Massive Debris in Taratala
Tragic news has emerged from Kolkata: on Wednesday, June 24, around 11:30 AM, a 32,000-square-foot under-construction warehouse in Taratala suddenly collapsed, resulting in eight deaths and leaving over 20 people injured. Approximately 40 workers were trapped under concrete debris, twisted iron beams, steel structures, and tin sheets during the incident. Around 400 personnel from the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, Kolkata Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, and the Disaster Management Unit have been deployed for the rescue operation. Modern equipment—such as angle cutters, diamond chain saws, air plasma cutting machines, and cordless hammer drills—is being used to cut through the concrete debris. Rescue workers systematically removed parts of the collapsed structure and initially pulled about 25 people out; however, as time passed, reports indicated that the number of workers trapped under the rubble was higher. Taking action on the matter, the police arrested three individuals late Wednesday night: site supervisor Syed Mohammad Gulzar, labor supplier Subhash Chaudhary, and Mohammad Ata-ul. According to available information, the facility was intended to serve as a tea warehouse, battery store, and cold storage unit. The warehouse—comprising a ground floor plus two additional stories—was being constructed on Kolkata Port land and had been leased for 30 years by Shambhu Bada, a businessman from Odisha. AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava Sentenced to Seven Years in 2023 Assault and Extortion Case; Party Announces Statewide Protests
A Sessions Court in Narmada district has convicted AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava, his wife, and seven others in a case involving the alleged assault of Forest Department officials and extortion in 2023. He said that party workers would stage demonstrations in every district to raise their voices in support of Chaitar Vasava. Gopal Rai alleged that the BJP is unsettled by Vasava’s growing popularity and that he has been targeted for political reasons. He claimed that the case is part of a conspiracy and that such politics cannot be accepted in a democracy. Rai added that, ultimately, the public would decide the truth.
